Community Involvement

In 2015, I was fortunate to donate bone marrow to a mother of 4 suffering from Leukemia. The entire process was facilitated by Gift of Life, a leading bone marrow, stem cell and gene therapy organization that has directly saved thousands of lives. I was honored to join the Board of Directors in 2017 to play a very small part in helping to cure those with blood, bone and other cancers through tissue typing, and cellular and gene therapy. Ask me about swabbing your cheek to be on the registry - you can save a life!

Summer Job

I worked for a popcorn company called Popcorn Indiana popping corn by hand while getting oil burns. I also crashed the popcorn truck. Loved every minute of it.

Hobby

I’m a long-distance running, Jimi Hendrix guitar playing, Bob Ross painting, Miami sports fanatic who is obsessed with technology.

What drives you?

My family, My faith, a great BBQ and innovation.

Baiyin (“Bay-yen”) is a General Partner at Indicator Ventures. After graduating from The College of William and Mary and spending two years as an investment banker at BB&T Capital Markets, she began her venture capital career investing in tech companies across all stages and has served on dozens of boards. She learned the investing ropes working at VC firms such as ClearSky, OpenView, and Ascent Venture Partners, investing in companies such as Cylance, Expensify, Logikcull, and Lessonly. Baiyin grew up in Montreal and Northern Virginia and had an early appreciation and love for technology, having been raised by two software engineers. Baiyin lives in Miami with her husband Austin, their daughter Remi and dog Hunter.

Community Involvement

I care deeply about sustainable living, access to education and diversity and inclusion in tech. I currently serve as a faculty advisor for Babson College, focusing on entrepreneurship. I serve as a Chair of the Board of the New England Venture Network, which is a community-building and inclusive organization connecting tech investors together to build the next generation tech, life sciences and VC ecosystem. I'm also a lover of the arts and spend my weekends as a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts and serve on the Young Collectors Board of the Institute of Contemporary Arts in Miami. Art spreads happiness and we could all use some extra happiness in the world!

Summer Job

I refilled the flower station at Costco and made friends with all the food sample ladies. That same summer, I also worked at a doctor’s office (thinking I would eventually become a doctor) and converted thousands of patient medical records to EMR. The best part of working at a doctor’s office? Free lunches from pharma sales reps! Notice a pattern?

Skill you’d like to get better at

Since the pandemic, my partner and I have redefined Friday date nights to outdoor tennis sessions with a coach. I’m working on my serves right now.

I interned at a crisis communications and PR firm where I was confined to the basement with the CEO’s 5 small dogs. My responsibilities included dog walking, cutting out newspaper clippings and putting them in a binder and entertaining clients at Red Sox games.

I love to build model airplanes and assemble anything that comes in a million pieces - it's a form of meditation for me. With a toddler I am now spending most of my time building blocks, legos and Magna-Tiles.
